Join New Wilmington Art Association on Thursday, August 20th at 7pm for a free screening of Downtown 81.
Downtown 81 follows a young Basquiat throughout a post-punk Manhattan as he meets hipster artists, musicians, models, and dancers. It offers chance glimpses of Basquiat's early paintings, performances by new wave bands and early hip hop pioneers, and the milieu of New York in the early 1980s. Interestingly, the film was not released until 2000 when it premiered at Cannes, close to 20 years after it was shot.
